Silver Tones at CFC

by Ron Hilbig

On a hot Sunday evening in July, the 18-member Silver Tones Swing Band brought their Big Band versions of popular songs from the 1940s-1970s to Christian Fellowship Church. An energetic crowd of dancers kept everyone entertained while seating was provided for those who came to listen to and enjoy songs from a bygone era.

“Mack the Knife”, “Sing, Sing, Sing”, “Unchained Melody”, and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” were just some of the crowd favorites, although the rowdy bossanova beat of “Hot Hot Hot” got the entire crowd on their feet for a conga line that wound its way around the CFC main worship center.

A special dance couple, Bob & Ellena from Gaithersburg, had a CFC Story to share. Last year, right after they got married, they drove down to CFC to attend the Swing Dance event. This year, for their 1st anniversary, they once again returned to Ashburn to celebrate with the Silver Tones! To mark the event, they each presented a dedication to one another, which was followed by a special song – the first time we met you were “Unforgettable” and so glad you agreed to “Come Fly with Me”. Love was truly in the air!

Several local swing dance groups performed during the evening, as well as participated in fun demonstrations of group dances.

Guests were asked to donate a $10 admission fee for the evening, the proceeds of which supported local classroom teachers. Our very generous crowd raised over $1,400. What an unforgettable night it was!
